Crabby Allies & Cozy Accessories

YO MIKE WHATCHA LIKE?

Hi! Hey! Welcome!

This is a very simple newsletter, made to share the things I enjoy. I'm a 'very online' kinda guy, and I love to throw things at people and say 'hey look at this!' – so now I'm doing it in a newsletter.

Okay, right, let's have a go at that.

Watch this BBC 'spy crab' enjoy the protection of an army of real crabs, as a huge 4-metre stingray swoops in for a feast!

πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦° I really like these pastry-, pasta- and cookie-themed hair accessories by Joanna Behar.

I've bought a few for my daughter over the years and they're super cute. πŸ₯–

I'm weirdly drawn to 'Mood boards' and product bookmarking sites. Like Pinterest, but especially like the long shuttered SVPPLY. How I miss SVPPLY. Here's a few of today's options, if you're into this sort of thing too!

  • cosmos.so (my fave)
  • Very Goods (Made by former Svpply team, not accepting new signups)
  • Same Energy (like a more elitist pinterest πŸ˜†)
  • Savee (mostly for designers)
  • WantLocker (⚠️ Requires your phone number to sign up)
  • Benable (This one is a bit different – it's a product saving site, but as affiliate links. I've only just discovered it, so I can't say much for it!)

🎡 A few days ago, Air performed one of NPR's famous Tiny Desk Concerts, and damn it's beautiful.

πŸ—žοΈ Long read: You've heard of 'the greatest generation', a term usually applied to those who lived through WW2 – but what if, actually, the title really belongs to Generation X? NYT writer Amanda Fortini says so.

"Gen X isn’t just a time period; it’s also, as Rushkoff writes in The GenX Reader, 'a culture, a demographic, an outlook, a style, an economy, a scene, a political ideology, an aesthetic, an age, a decade and a literature.'"

Today I'm enjoying the art of Jetpacks & Rollerskates, "a designer and illustrator with a passion for everything '80s and '90s".

This aligns nicely with my tastes. 😁

πŸ“€ I'm, like, 18 months late, but: Was 1994 the best-ever year for new music releases? This list is incredible. I was 14 and had more than a few of these albums (very few of them acquired legally), although I'll admit I don't remember being astounded at the time.

It was just... a good time in music, y'know?

πŸ’» MacOS: Sick of Apple Music opening when you hit ▢️ on your keyboard? You can't delete Apple Music, but thanks to Music Decoy, you can stop it opening in those moments.

πŸ‘• Style: If you're into vintage-style graphic tees, London-based P&Co is a fave of mine. I especially dig this Karma Club tee!

πŸ—žοΈ A billionaire’s spiritual guide to letting go – of US$19 billion.

Damn. The case for MacKenzie Scott – unfairly known best as the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos – being the greatest person alive is pretty strong. I mean, maybe just the greatest rich person, but that feels like a low bar. I feel like Scott should probably just be in charge of all money.

"Since 2020, Scott has given away over US$19b to more than 2400 nonprofits for causes like racial justice, education, and economic mobility. This year, she has donated more than US$700m to a dozen+ historically Black colleges and universities – institutions that rarely receive major funding."

πŸ•ΉοΈ Bring back the Nintendo 3DS! The Switch isn't really that portable compared to this pocketable little gem.

I really miss the days when Nintendo had both a home console and a very compact portable device. That was their thing! Of course, you could just get this popular lookalike, the Ayn Thor...

(Come chat with me on Threads or Bluesky about it?)

Okay, we're done for today. How was it?
