YO MIKE WHATCHA LIKE?

Hi! Hey! Welcome!

This is a very simple newsletter, made to share the things I enjoy. I'm a 'very online' kinda guy, and I love to throw things at people and say 'hey look at this!' – so now I'm doing it in a newsletter.

Okay, right, let's have a go at that.

πŸš‹ In Australia, the state of Victoria has made all public transport free for everybody under 18 from January 1 2026.

That's pretty damn cool. It already runs free trams in the city centre, and free travel for everyone on weekends during the summer, so... yeah. Go Vic!

πŸ“  Apps: Maccy is one of my fave MacOS apps. It's a clipboard manager that can save an extensive history of everything you copy to your clipboard, whether it's plain text, entire paragraphs of fully formatted and hyperlinked text, or even images.

I know the latest MacOS has finally added a native clipboard manager (now for iOS please!), but I'm not sure it'll ever replace Maccy for me!

➿ Intertapes is a collection of found cassette tapes, and you can listen to what was on them. Just click on any, hit the play button, and you're away in history. Feels a little voyeuristic in concept, but the content looks mostly harmless from what I can see!

πŸ“Ί This is bizarre... a new 4K update of the Mad Men series, streaming on HBO Max, debuted with the remastered original footage (obviously) but not the digital effects that were applied later in the HD original edit – so you can see all the film crew and props that would've been in the original footage before it was edited for its original cable TV broadcast. What a screw-up!

This blog post has loads of the footage that aired before the episodes were taken down to be corrected.

πŸ‘“ If you're an Android user, Google has released a new video today that reveals the latest updates to its 'XR' tech – Android's response to Apple's Vision Pro and Meta's smart glasses.

πŸ‘†I'm genuinely really excited for Google XR on those 'augmented reality' glasses. I don't have much interest in bulky VR headsets tbh, but AR? Yes please!

🍿 But wait! It looks like the 'Netflix is buying Warner Bros' story is not yet finished... Paramount, only recently bought out by some wealthy fellas, has made a massive US$108b offer directly to the shareholders – sidestepping the WB board that accepted Netflix's $83b offer. *dramatic suspense sound*

Oh, and it's backed by Saudi money.

πŸ€– Whoa whoa whoa, there's an automatically transforming toy of Soundwave from the Transformers cartoon!

This latest Robosen toy joins the existing Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bumblebee and Grimlock that launched sometime ago, and damn it looks cool.

The bad news: it's US$1400! (A$2100) 🫨

Switching from iPhone to Android, or Android to iPhone, is about to get easier! New details in the latest 'beta' version of Android shows that Google and Apple have been working together to make the transfer of data from your old device to your new device much smoother, making it easier to jump between platforms.

If you're done browsing Intertapes, check out StickerTop Art – an online collection of photos with the laptop stickers of hundreds of nerds like me and you. Cool idea. And you can upload your own!

Okay, we're done for today. How was it?

Okay, right, let's have a go at that. 🍿 The original Star Wars cut is returning to cinemas! This is pretty big. In the '90s, George Lucas used new computer graphics to replace a lot of the original film's practical effects (models and puppets), and added...
