YO MIKE WHATCHA LIKE?

Hi! โ€‹Hey! Welcome!

TODAAAY: Instagram's new user-friendly algorithm controls, a friend-friendly Facebook redesign, and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is Becca's bestie for 2025. Plus: A sweet Mario Kart World update, Alan Moore, and a bunch of new Aussie-made video games!

๐Ÿ“ฑ Instagram is finally going to let users manage their algorithm, by simply marking topics as liked or disliked. It's AI-powered, but to be fair, this is the sort of thing we want AI doing!

๐Ÿ’กSad to discover this beautiful book lamp is sold out... but at US$345 (A$500), it's probably for the best. ๐Ÿ˜† Should I risk it with this much cheaper Amazon version?

Micro-USB charging tho... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

๐Ÿ‘ If you're still a Facebook user (you know who you are, and I confess I've returned to it!), there's a big redesign coming that focuses more on friends and less on... all the other crap.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Best phone of 2025? Becca sez yes.โ€‹

Maaaan I would snap up a Galaxy Z Fold 7 in a heartbeat if it still had S Pen support. Apparently Samsung is working with Hideep on a new stylus that doesn't need a digitiser layer and still has palm rejection, but we'll see... hopefully in the Z Fold 8!

๐ŸŽฎ There's a new update to Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 that lets you create online 'play' sessions exclusively with folks from your Friend List. A fun way to hang out without randoms!

๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ This photo by David Benjamin Sherry, "Sunrise on Mesquite Flat Dunes", is gorgeous and even reminds me a little of the film Dune.

It was featured on the cover of New York Times Magazine in 2014, and is available for sale as a limited-edition print! (US$250 A$376)

๐Ÿ—ž๏ธ Long read: For the comic book reader, here's a pretty incredible piece about Alan Moore, author of the Watchmen series, V for Vendetta, and a few other biggies.

๐Ÿงฐ I'd quite like to have this carabiner with integrated 85cm cord reel. It's pricey, but it can also hold 3.4kg before the cord will extend from the reel โ€“ so it's perfect for hanging items from your backpack or belt. Made in Japan!

There's also this backpack-specific version, but I can't find any in Australia. Expensive shipping ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

โ˜๏ธ If you're not following Guardian cartoonist Stephen Collins, you should! He's on Instagram and Bluesky.

๐ŸŽฎ Lastly, here's a bunch of cool new Australian- and New Zealand-made video games, revealed this week!

Okay, we're done for today. How was it?

Hi! Hey! Welcome! Intro text here. If I forget to replace this with some intro text, then, uh, enjoy this fun screwup! ๐ŸŽ„ My brilliant daughter drew a Christmas card for her classmates and I'm the clown who popped it into a template and sent it off to print x 25. A delivery to look forward to! ๐Ÿฟ The first Supergirl trailer is here! Looks like she's the rebel of the family? I have a feeling this one might be even more fun than the Superman movie. ๐Ÿฟ You want more trailers? Try Street Fighter. No...

YO MIKE WHATCHA LIKE? Hi! Hey! Welcome! This is a very simple newsletter, made to share the things I enjoy. I'm a 'very online' kinda guy, and I love to throw things at people and say 'hey look at this!' โ€“ so now I'm doing it in a newsletter. Okay, right, let's have a go at that. ๐Ÿš‹ In Australia, the state of Victoria has made all public transport free for everybody under 18 from January 1 2026. That's pretty damn cool. It already runs free trams in the city centre, and free travel for...
